

This was much attributed to Green’s sizeable online following. Six months before, however, it had already reached the number one spot on the bestsellers lists for both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The Fault in Our Stars was published in January 2012.

The author drew inspiration to write the book from his work as a chaplain at a children’s home as well as from his friendship with Esther Earl, his friend to whom he dedicates the book to.

The book’s title is inspired by Act 1 of the second scene of Julius Caesar, Shakespeare’s play wherein Cassius tells Brutus: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings". The Fault in Our Stars is a book written by John Green, and follows the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster, the main character, as she battles cancer.
